President Museveni appoints Lands Inquiry Commission

The President, H.E Yoweri Museveni on Feb. 21.2017 witnessed the swearing in of the team that will constitute the Lands Inquiry Commission. This ceremony was held at State House Entebbe and saw 6 members of the Inquiry commission sworn in who will be assisted by 4 individuals in the execution of their assignment.

This commission was established in line with the Commission of Inquiry Act (Cap 166) and was tasked with the responsibility of evaluating the effectiveness of Law, Policies and Processes of land acquisition, Land Administration, Land Management as well as land registration in Uganda. This commission was constituted after massive public outcry over land evictions, and land related disputes that were on the rise in the country.

The commission shall be composed of a chairperson and 6 members

  • Hon Lady Justice Catherine Bamugemereire – Chairperson
  • Owekitibwa Robert Sebunya – Member
  • Mrs Mary Oduka Ochan – Member
  • Mrs Joyce Habasa – Member
  • Rose Nakayi – Member
  • Hon Fred Ruhindi – Member
  • Mr George Bagonza Tinkamayire – Member

The Commission shall be assisted by:

  • Mrs Olive Karazawe – Secretary
  • Dr Douglas Singiza – Assistant Secretary Research
  • Mr Ebert Byenkya – Lead Counsel
  • Mr John Bosco Rujagaata Suuza – Co-Lead Counsel
